Submissions & Criteria
There is no entry process, per se, for the Dorian Awards. Nor does GALECA charge any submission fees. However, please note:
Dorian Film Award candidates must have had at least a limited theatrical release of one week in the U.S. in the given year.
Digital theatrical releases do qualify if they have not previously premiered on television, VOD or a streaming service.
Best Non-English Language Film candidates may have had either a limited theatrical release, digital theatrical release, or were their country’s official A.M.P.AS. submission, in the given timeframe.
Film Documentary nominees are single feature-length releases.
We do not currently have a short film category.
Dorian TV Award candidates must have aired sometime during June 1 through May 31 of the following year. Series and miniseries (limited series) must have aired at least one-third of their run, including their debut episode or season premiere, by June 1 to be considered in the year of said premiere.
Miniseries, TV movies, reality shows, specials and documentary programs may all be considered in the LGBTQ, Visually Striking, Unsung and Campiest categories.
Streaming platform titles are considered TV. However, web series must have a consistent running time of at least 20 minutes per episode to be considered in the TV categories. We do not have a short-form TV category.
Dorian Theater Award candidates must have premiered on Broadway between early May and late April of the following year, or Off-Broadway between April 1 and March 31 of the following year.
Please be advised
For the safety of our members, GALECA’s roster is proprietary and only shared with PR representatives for FYC campaign purposes and ally organizations with whom we work.
Representatives of films and TV programs in contention may not suggest that any GALECA board member has officially endorsed said title.
